  Happy new year!

06/06/08

I've been adding a mix of newer and older pieces to the painting gallery this last couple weeks.  You may note that I have also begun   to re-image some of the works as well.  As a standard many of my paintings will now be represented at higher resolution and better lighting.  I was conducting my shooting in my studio, but until I have the proper equipment,  photographing by the light of the sun is a workable compromise.

This month I am showing for the first time in a gallery, the La Luz De Jesus in LA.  This is their annual group show.  I submitted five pieces of witch one was selected.  Ironically the work that had by far the least time and effort involved was the one they picked.  Such is life.  I am however thrilled to have taken this first step.  There is much anxiety when fist offering one's self too be judged by the public.

This web site has been my focus for the last couple weeks, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.   There is still so much work to do.  The first paintings page is currently being updated so you will notice some empty space.  The other two pages are accessible.

It has been a long journey but I feel that things, this site, my work, etc, are finally coming together.  The hardest next step will be the marketing.

I have several new and much larger projects in their Beginning stage.  The older I get the more I feel the need to push my self.  I have begun a series of life studies.  Something I have rarely done .  I tend to work mostly from my imagination since most of my visions have no real basis in reality.  This I realize is holding me back.  The fear of the unknown is I find,  often our greatest setback.  As an artist I have the constant need to overcome my self.  So, some of these projects are of a much looser flamboyant style.  More marketable and fun (I love painting twisted glass and foliage)!  In others I will be continuing to push myself.  These works, Father Failure for example, are usually of a more personal philosophical nature.  Too me they are infinitely deep in their meaning and relationships.

One final note.  I realize that many of the new images are of poor quality.  My brother and I recently gifted my mother with a digital camera.  Selfishly perhaps I have been it's primary user.  While this has afforded me the luxury to easily image works for this site,  ease comes at a price.  The quality of many of the paintings is terrible.  They are grainy, poorly lit, and out of focus.  When I'm better able to afford the proper equipment, mainly a 4"x5" large format camera, I will re-shoot much of my work.
